WRC COMES HOME TO TOKYO!

The World Riichi Championship (WRC) is the largest international riichi mahjong tournament of its kind, attracting players from all over the world to compete for its sought-after title.
The event to date has been held in Paris, Las Vegas and Vienna, giving riichi fans the opportunity to compete at the highest levels.
It is with great honor that the WRC organisers are able to announce that the fourth installment will be held in the home of riichi itself, Tokyo, Japan.
Further, in addition to the individual event and opportunities for cultural exchange, we will be holding a team event.
We have every expectation that WRC 2025 will be the best event yet and we cannot wait to meet you in Tokyo!

WRC 2025

WRC was established in 2014 with the goal of promoting riichi mahjong internationally and to build a forum where riichi mahjong players all over the world would have the opportunity for exchange and friendship.
The 2025 event will bring the game back to its birthplace, providing attendees not only the opportunity to compete in a top-level environment but also enjoy the rich culture of Japan.

Paris 2014

The inaugural event of the WRC Project was held in 2014. 120 players from around the world traveled to Paris, unsure of what they would find.

Thanks to the hard work of the TNT Club, the first event was a great success with players competing for the first title and also making lifelong friendships.

Hiroshi Yamai of Japan was the first player crowned World Riichi Champion.

Las Vegas 2017

Following the success of the first WRC, the United States Professional Mahjong league took on the challenge of hosting the second WRC in the glitzy lights of Las Vegas.

224 players joined an exciting event that saw non-Japanese players have a shot at the top trophy.

However, after a long four days of mahjong, Masaharu Tomotake of Japan claimed victory and the title of 2nd World Riichi Champion.

Vienna 2022

Keijun Nara

Originally scheduled for 2020, the third WRC had to be postponed twice before Kasu club were able to hold the long-planned event.

Japan continued to lose its dominance on the top brackets with two non-Japanese players making the final table.

However, Keijun Nara of Japan was not going to loosen his country’s grip on the trophy. In a nail-biting final for all watching, he claimed the title of 3rd World Riichi Champion.
